At a time when artists and presenters are exploring new ways of working, many are looking to the independent producer model pioneered by Performing Lines - and to our 25 years of experience and contacts. Performing Lines

How we got here

In July 2008, Sydney based producing company Performing Lines successfully won the tender for the Managing and Producing Services (MAPS) initiative of the Australia Council and The West Australian Department of Culture and the Arts in Western Australia. To deliver this initiative, Performing Lines set up a Perth office and selected six independent artists who are supported for three years under the banner Performing Lines WA.

Performing Lines
Performing Lines develops, produces, and tours new Australian performances nationally and internationally.

Working from concept to production and touring, Performing Lines assists artists at every stage of their careers, from emerging artists to internationally recognised names - and in many cases, plays a critical role in artists' development. They produce or tour works presented at all levels of the Australian performing arts industry - from the contemporary arts venues comprising the Mobile States consortium, to regional venues large and small, to flagship venues such as Sydney Opera House, and to all the major Australian festivals.

Since its inception, Performing Lines has travelled far and wide with tours specifically designed to give each company or performer access to a broader audience. Since 1990, it has worked with companies large and small throughout Australia.

Additionally Performing Lines currently delivers initiatives including MAPS NSW, Mobile States, Roadworks, Sound Travellers and Tasmania Performs.

The breadth and diversity of Performing Lines work in West Australia can be seen in their 2009 program and beyond: from erth's large scale visual theatre adaptation of Patricia Wrightson's classic novel, The Nargun and the Stars which was performed at the 2009 UWA Perth International Arts Festival to Dancenorth's powerful contemporary dance work, Roadkill which was performed at the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts.
